(words & music by Harlan Collins)

An ancient mariner sang a tune
By the water by the light of the yellow moon
And he swayed like a sail as he sang his oceansong
It was more like a prayer to the waves and they clapped along

And the secrets of the sea give themselves to me
All the creatures of the deep wake me from my sleep
To the link the sea retains with the water in my veins

The wind blew high as it danced in the dunes of sand
And the gulls in the sky flew circles around the man
The dolphins came when they heard his melody
And he rode on their backs and they carried him out to sea

And the secrets of the sea give themselves to me
All the creatures of the deep wake me from my sleep
To the link the sea retains with the water in my veins

Somewhere sleeps the sun beyond the horizon
There the sailor’s gone

And the secrets of the sea give themselves to me
All the creatures of the deep wake me from my sleep
To the link the sea retains with the water in my veins
And in the silence of our brains
